Trucks Involved in Three Recent Highway Fatalities | Raytown, MO

December 12, 2014 by Peter Jouras

A Raytown man who was severely injured at the beginning of the year succumbed to his injuries this week.  45 year old Barry Clemons died from injuries he sustained in a wreck on westbound K-10 when a trailer came loose from an eastbound truck and crossed the median colliding with his car.

Yesterday evening two people were killed when a semi truck and their car collided near U.S. 60 and Missouri 116 in Clinton County, Missouri.  According to reports at least one other person suffered life threatening injuries in that wreck as well.

Reading about both these tragic wrecks reminds me that extra vigilance is needed as we enter into the wintry season of less daylight and challenging road conditions.  Putting extra space between your vehicle and others on the road, especially large trucks, is even more important during this time of year.   Not all tragedies can be avoided, as in the case of Mr. Clemons, but by leaving extra distance and slowing down, it gives us drivers of smaller vehicles a better chance, when sharing the road with large trucks, of avoiding a deadly accident.
